Manager Engagement Fell From 31% to 22% in Three Years. Employee Engagement Barely Moved.

22% MANAGER ENGAGEMENT IN 2025, DOWN FROM 31% IN 2022

Gallup’s 2026 State of the Global Workplace report found manager engagement dropped from 31% in 2022 to 22% in 2025, the steepest driver behind a global engagement slide to a five-year low. Individual contributor engagement stayed roughly flat over the same period. Best-practice organizations still hit 79% manager engagement, nearly four times the global average, proof the decline isn’t inevitable.
